A Piece of Art

Love&Money Gallery, Helsinki

7 Nov - 2 December 2019

A Piece of Art is a graphic mural consists of a sequence of six ‘propositions’:

1. Malevich’s Black Square is neither about black nor about a square.

2. Duchamp’s Fountain is neither about a fountain nor about a urinal.

3. Kosuth’s One and Three Chairs is not about chairs.

4. Magritte’s The Treachery of Images is not about a pipe.

5. Manzoni’s Artist’s Shit is neither about shit nor about canned goods.

6. As Malevich’s Black Square is neither about black nor about a square; Duchamp’s Fountain is neither about a fountain nor about a urinal; Kosuth’s One and Three Chairs is not about chairs; Magritte’s The Treachery of Images is not about a pipe; Manzoni’s Artist’s Shit is neither about shit nor about canned goods, a piece of art is never about anything.

Initially, the work was just notes on A4 sheets of paper, and I wish to thank the artist and curator Mark Maher (Love&Money) for the idea of turning it into a temporary wall mural.

Special thanks: Art Foundation Merita
